BOOK NOWAbout Epidavros
The extraordinary village of Ancient Epidavros has been a place of healing for more than 4,000 years. A renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site in Greece’s Argolis region, Epidavros is famous for its exceptionally preserved ancient theatre and the nearby Sanctuary of Asklepios, an ancient premier healing centre where it is believed that meditation played a key role in healing modalities.
Epidavros is said to mean 'centre of the aura' and is known as a powerful energetic location. As renowned author Henry Miller wrote, 'The road to Epidaurus is like the road to creation. One stops searching. One grows silent, stilled by the hush of mysterious beginnings'.
With its deep and rich history of healing, Epidavros is the perfect setting to rest, restore and retreat, while immersing yourself in the rhythms of an authentic, magical Greek fishing village.
Retreat programme
Each day will begin with a morning yoga class, including meditation and a flowing asana practice, held in the light-filled rooftop shala overlooking the harbour and the endless sea beyond.
Morning practice will be followed by a healthy, hearty breakfast made from fresh local produce. You will then have free time to relax on the beach, explore the surrounding area, or simply unwind.
In the late afternoon, the group will gather again for a second, more restorative session, offering space to slow down and deepen into the postures.
Each evening, the group will come together for dinner in the hotel’s traditional family restaurant overlooking the harbour.
There will be one yoga-free day during the week, and no yoga sessions on travel days. All classes will be suitable for every level of yoga experience.
Things to do
Just a short walk from the hotel, you will find several beautiful beaches, including the remarkable Sunken City, often called the 'Atlantis' of Argolida. Walls, building foundations, enormous amphorae and paved pathways lie only metres below sea level, just a short swim from the shore. You can explore this unique site by snorkelling or scuba diving.
If you prefer a quieter pace, you can choose a peaceful beach for swimming, sunbathing or simply gazing out across the shimmering sea.
Within the village, you will find opportunities for historical walking tours, snorkelling, kayaking and hiking. Within 15 minutes of the village you can visit the famous Ancient Theatre of Epidavros, the Sanctuary of Asklepios, and in less than an hour, the islands of Poros, Hydra and Spetses, or the beautiful seaside town of Nafplio.
Accommodation & food
You will stay at the simple and charming Hotel Mike, a family-run hotel set on the seafront in the heart of Ancient Epidavros.
The hotel offers a variety of en-suite rooms, each with a private balcony. Every room is unique, with some overlooking the sea and others facing the village.
The yoga shala is located on the rooftop, offering breathtaking views across the harbour and expansive sea.
A delicious and nourishing breakfast will be served each morning after yoga in the hotel’s traditional family restaurant. A traditional evening dinner is also included, with vegetarian, fish and meat options available, along with local wine. Tea, coffee and fresh fruit will be available throughout the day.
